Participantthis is beyond disgusting, REPULSIVE, shoppers should completely boycott Palmer candies and products, put the factory owners and the city out of commission. People who need jobs should go to Allentown or the city of Reading or North Carolina even. This kind of collective mindset that resulted in this accident should be UNTENABLE.

Participantare you kidding???? that would be only be 50 minutes of TV broadcast and everyone is in the loop. Nahhhhh wait till death and fire and sirens strike, wait till burning buildings and shattered bones hit the pavement and see how much these monsters can make money selling advertising space in newsprint, radio and TV news – nahhh why do it right when doing it wrong is so much better for all of us (remember that monster Zorg from The Fifth Element?) That S on Clark Kent’s chest does it mean Hope or does it mean Sleaze and Shite? Funny his boss is Perry WHITE! THOSE NEWS OUTLETS ARE THEY NOT WHITER THAN WHITE?!!!! REAL SNOW WHITES!

Participantwhat’s the point? Thousands of 60 minutes segments since the show launched and for the most part, we are still where things were when the show started, except for cosmetic wrinkles, a few politicians whose careers got sacked, the results are basically nill when you do the big picture arithmetic. And to make things worse, those people who produce 60 minutes are nowadays believed to be corrupt, beholden to special interests, advertisers’ accounts and budgets, professional lobbyists and industry’s hidden agendas. Dorothy has strayed far away from the yellow brick road, I am so sorry to burst your bubble like that.

Participantwhen I read this kind of stuff, my skin crawls with disgust. To be the borough officials, to know the risks and pretend you have no knowledge, to sit back and roll the dice, to take payouts from the factory owners and managers to look the other way when you know all about the risk the factory workers are subjected to day and in day out – for god sake some people COMPLAINED ABOUT THE GAS SMELL INSIDE THE FACTORY FOR MONTHS, SOME EMPLOYEES RESIGNED AND NOBODY DID ANYTHING????? This is NOT neglience (first and foremost Palmer management and second city officials) this is CRIMINAL 😠

ParticipantI am reading all of this and I am like shaking my head, this reads like a major conspiracy, but the d-ckhead making money from it all walks up to you and shouts out loud “oh no another conspiracy theorist”, or “CONSPIRACY NUT” like no one knows about those business dudes who work all day to craft some kind of pricing scheme (not a conspiracy, its business strategy) and then we have a group of lobbyists and politicians who toil year around to get some bill no one will know about in congress or inset a clause in a popular bill that gives a certain political group specials loopholes (not a conspiracy, its political strategy) and then we have a bunch low level judges who organize all kind of charity drives, discuss what kind of cases should be advanced to the state district courts so there could be precedents for lower level courtroom trials but without such case making it to the Supreme Court for national press coverage, yep that is corruption and legal strategy but not conspiracy – we dont have conspiracies all day long, all year long, they dont exist Mr. Cuckoo, these are organizational and strategic moves, ploys, public programming, influencing and media influencers, so your friendly Mafia (Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Ukranian, etc all are now legal and mainstream) are all working and stashing mountains of money but not a single conspiracy on the horizon, because if you spot vile and filthy and criminal conspiracies that means you are a nutcase, our world is that of Captain America, Black Widow, Harry Potter, Snow White and Superman. Just ask The Boys … and The Girls!

ParticipantReddit banned my account there on account I stood up for fantastic_fan25 (Debbie) and her support for the initial review in this series but now I see it was worth the effort despite losing my account to insane censors who mute anyone defending their point of view. Reddit is as much part of the problem as the utilities and government agencies keeping this quiet.
I think a bunch of us should demonstrate outside the offices of FERC – they regulate the utilities nationwide, I am surprised West Coast Midnight Run and Mr. Pierre Maertin did not make mention of them nor lays some of the blame at their doorstep.
Did you forget all about FERC, Mr. Maertin? It’s not only the NTSB and DOT or DOJ.

ParticipantReddit is not a democratic social media platform, its more like a Banana Republic dictatorship platform, its money and revenues are from elite companies who want to control a political agenda media influencing platform while pretending it is a community based interactive social media platform. Just look at its most popular groups (subreddits), they mostly are affiliates of big media and the biggest movie studios – and they super censored and controlled by so called mods.
Reddit is a sham but my fellow Americans love to pretend the site is what the advertising says it is, and those on reddit think they are missionaries to the world, they know it is fake but hope the rest of the world can’t see that. The ultimate crap show.

Participantwe all should raise a glass and cheers to the diligent NTSB for watching our backs, for the more than 1,000 gas utilities nationwide that rolled out all this faulty pipeline, to DuPont for selling the American taxpayer this unsafe product and to all the engineering and contracting firms that might have objected but looked the other way because of a hefty paycheck not only when originally installed but later on when those involved knew it would need to removed and replaced, twice if not thrice the paycheck, cheers to all of them because not only they are taking it out from my pocketbook and yours, I dont know about you but I am always in a magnanimous mood, and not only we can afford to pay for a pipeline three times over, but we can also afford along the way to throw into the fire and into the graveyard a few hundred or maybe a few thousands bodies and lives, CHEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ParticipantExcellent follow-up Mr. Maertin, best piece yet in the entire series on the Palmer tragedy. My condolences to all the victims, and worst of luck to all the hands in the pot who were and are responsible for this travesty. And from your segment, it seems any one of us could be next in the hospital or the morgue, that’s the most vile thing yet I have ever had the misfortune of learning about since I was old enough to read a book in secondary school. I am having trouble wrapping my head around what you put together for your readers. I dont know how any or all of us, concerned citizens, could tackle this thing – maybe that is what those agencies and state officials have done – bury it rather than deal with it.

Participantwhat I cannot believe is this Murray telling Maertin “we dont have records going that far back” or something like that. Oh wow LOL you gotta be kidding me. Contractors submit plans and documents as a matter of moda operandi, it’s essential to their work, keeping records is the first and foremost priority of any administrative center for a city or borough, its their very first priority, how else do they control fraud or maintain working knowledge of what is in the ground and what equipment and installations are being used by their folks? I know of townships that are 500 people in size and their planning department have everything organized and records thoroughly maintained.
This is a borough of several thousand residents and A FACTORY that is selling nationwide. How does this borough control quality or safety????? So this place is out of control??? How does this a-hole dare defend their administrative department in this manner? He and Samantha Skank should be fired on the spot by their state governor whom I read came to visit and express concern at the time of accident in March.
OUTRAGEOUS misdirection and piss poor attempt to gaslight your reporter and publication.
If you go back to London in 1843, at the time of Big Ben I bet you they have thorough records of construction and this was before electricity, the telephone or computers. How did this manager respond like this???? Incredibly insane response and complete disrespect for his position and the public reading your report. He thought your readers would not pick up on it?
This person should not be working at city hall much less be a Borough Manager. How did he get his job????

Participantrather than come out and admit to a gross error in judgement? that is how conspiracies work, they are not this mysterious comic book crime superhero stuff, people like that cover up for other groups, either because they were getting paid or fear for their jobs, they lie, they misdirect, they redirect, they stall, they delay and drop the ball, they pass the word to other colleagues to blacklist anyone pushing their buttons. That is how racketeering and conspiracies work, both are federal crimes that are largely ignored.

1- aghast at this story and the implications, I live in Atlanta so we dont have PG&E removing that stuff for us.
2- you should put something up in the Kiosk section to alert members to look at your forums, this is an important item unlike your usual movie reviews, and people like can easily overlook it since I normally only look up your Kiosk list.
Thanks for the article and thanks for keeping my suggestion about Kiosk alerts in mind.

ParticipantMy gf works as a volunteer for this publication and she was working all week preparing notices to be sent to all kind of professional groups alerting them to this issue and asking they disseminate the article with their vast memberships including IBEW referenced in this article as well as groups such as the American Petroleum Institute, Underwriters Laboratories, the National Fire Protection Association, the National Society of Professional Engineers, Associated Builders and Contractors of America and the American Institute of Architects and dozens more will follow but any of you can do their part and share this article with friends, contact these groups directly and add your voice to that of the publication, keep the pressure up all of next year because this seems to me to be an issue that has been purposefully overlooked by the big press and paid for by a vast network of utilities that have trillions of dollars in influence with media and politicians. This looks to me like a conspiracy, where big money conspires to hide the issue from the American people and only grass roots pressure will make them follow PG&E’s example of replacing all that junk that takes a chance with our lives.

The United States government is possibly the most corrupt in the world, not only we have the largest assembly of organized crime groups ever seen on the face of the planet but they have an invisible system of banking and it operates on the simplest of principles, pay and we look the other way. From the Irish and Italian Mafias to the Japanese and Chinese Yakuza and Triad to the Central American and Cuban Cartels, they all operate in the good ole USA. Participanthere is a story in the Associated Press from a recent gas line explosion in July of this year in the state of Virginia, massive explosion and fire, witness was a driver passing along Interstate 81 who said “I could feel the heat and pressure from it, I’ve never experienced anything like that.” luckily no one was hurt on account the spot was rural, had it been in a populated commercial district or a residential area, fatalities or severe injuries would have been unavoidable

Participanteven in very rural areas, a gas pipe explosion can be dangerous, starting forest fires that can spread quickly if windy conditions exist or a dry season create the ideal conditions for a massive fire that can destroy acres of property.

Participantanother crazy predicament for fellow Americans south of the border, I don’t know about the USA but in Canada, a plumbing contractor would never install a plastic pipe on a medium pressure gas line, they will always default to steel or iron, but would a utility contractor screw the public and cast caution to the wind? its a big fat paycheck and now we clearly know what the American utility contractors would do and have done. I feel so sad for all of you, come over to Canada and live an easier life free of the “bottom line fever”, amazing none of the morning shows are gabbing about this all year long, its more exciting and arse warming than any of the Trump circuses that have been ongoing for years down there! You guys use gas powered room heaters? a big favorite up north for warming cold frozen buns.

Participant“At the White House, everybody works for the same person. They’re all part of the same company. But on Capitol Hill, they’re all independent contractors. They all work for themselves. That’s a formula for getting news.” Bob Schieffer, CBS News Presidential Debates Moderator
so that’s basically the formula for the proverbial “when the shit hits the fan” 😩

Participantprecisely why some people say we are getting exactly what’s coming to us, we the people asked for this quagmire. gotta wonder, do the residences of the utilities’ managers have steel gas pipes so they can sleep comfy smug and cozy at night?

ParticipantObviously I work in the construction industry and my reaction to this segment???
so this plant never got any visits or inspections from OSHA inspectors? @OSHA_DOL aren’t these supposed to happen annually? I am at a loss to understand how this accident or many others in the united states could happen with such tight regulations on the construction and maintenance industry??????? @POTUS @NTSB

ParticipantObviously Dean Murray (city manager) and Mayor Kaag of West Reading forgot about this extra explosive and killer gas line incident in Tyrone, PA in 2022, that makes two previous explosions from gas lines in the state of Pennsylvania, almost one year before the Palmer Candy factory devastation AND the 2017 Millersville, PA deadly explosion. Talk about officials doing their job? HAAAAAAAA Hahahhahah hahhahahhaaaha

Participantgood thing these damn utilities didn’t pipe their gas lines to the beaches and the sand fire pits, we would be having all kind of BBQs with Sex on the Beach and Screwdriver shots, fuck these guys, they gotta ruin everything for everyone. How come none of these utilities have been brought up in class action lawsuits in federal courts yet????

Participantlove reading some of your comments but after reading the article, I was at the gas station filling up my car and it just popped in my head, I had the frightening thought if a gas leak on the line supplying the shopping center where I was filling up for gasoline was leaking and an explosion happened, it could injure and kill a lot of shoppers, if the gas line explosion bridged the fuel gas tanks at the gas station. Part III says any commercial zone is vulnerable and shopping centers are in a commercial zone. so I was in a big haste to fill up and drive out of the gas station. I had me chills thinking this could happen somewhere (hopefully not where I live) there were families and kids all over the place, not that single adults and teenagers do not count.

ParticipantExtremely well written article, one I became aware of when I found out about a suspiciously similar incident that just took place a couple of days ago, December 10 or 9th, not sure exactly, in Oneonta New York, sadly one person was killed in the explosion (their residence) and the Fire Department is all over the scene investigating and the governor of New York, she was “devastated” of course because the explosion was felt like 40 miles away from the home where it blew. That’s hard to believe, a residential explosion felt 40 miles away, that’s quite some distance there, but that’s what the news reports are saying. The house you see in the background, that is the lot behind the house that exploded cause the house itself, there is nothing standing, just timber and concrete wreckage and debris.

ParticipantThis explosion in Washington DC just happened hours ago, yesterday I believe and this time it was a daycare center for children, there were also several similar explosions nationwide, in NJ and NY and Texas in the past few months, this thing is increasing in tempo since the you reported on the Palmer factory. I wonder if all of these are just coincidence or if your article is on target about the progression of the problem. This doesnt make me feel good at all, each time I look up these accidents the authorities are investigating!
